Haloween only in America?
October 31
Not at all, it s happens here as well. And actually I was happy to learn that the origin of this holiday was Celtic. Most of the Irish people even don t know it!
Halloween is Irish but strongly adopted by the American !
Here in Dublin I felt like the people took the celebration very seriously and not too much in a business way.
A week before the day , people were organizing private customs parties.
Getting ready in my room for party....

Alex loves men...he wrote it!

Keshet and Patrick the bugs
Some people were costumed every day.
Houses and shops started to be decorated 2 weeks before the day.

On 31th , the atmosphere changed totally…children were costumed , adults were smiling more than an usual day , all the candies were ready next to the doors, houses were warmly lighted and the noises of home fireworks gave an hell atmosphere.

Groups of children were passing from house to house to get there sweets in exchange of the magical formula "Trick-or-Treating". Kids were specially happy to trick the neighbors by coming twice to the same house, getting the sweet or the peanut and then laughing because thinking that the neighbors forgot about their first visit!
Was really nice!
If you are interested to go forward in the origins of this Holiday, please find below a small summery about the History of Halloween: (mmh this blog becomes more and more serious! You can learn so much !)
Halloween is on October 31st, the last day of the Celtic calendar. It was originally a pagan holiday, honoring the dead. Halloween was referred to as All Hallows Eve and dates back to over 2000 years ago.
All Hallows Eve is the evening before All Saints Day, which was created by Christians to convert pagans, and is celebrated on November 1st. The Catholic church honored saints on this designated day.
While there are many versions of the origins and old customs of Halloween, some remain consistent by all accounts. Different cultures view Holloween somewhat differently but traditional Halloween practices remain the same.
Halloween culture can be traced back to the Druids, a Celtic culture in Ireland, Britain and Northern Europe. Roots lay in the feast of Samhain, which was annually on October 31st to honor the dead.
Samhain signifies "summers end" or November. Samhain was a harvest festival with huge sacred bonfires, marking the end of the Celtic year and beginning of a new one. Many of the practices involved in this celebration were fed on superstition. Often, sacrifices were made to Samhain, the Lord of the dead in order to satisfy him.
The Celts believed the souls of the dead roamed the streets and villages at night. Since not all spirits were thought to be friendly, gifts and treats were left out to pacify the evil and ensure next years crops would be plentiful. This custom evolved into trick-or-treating.Wicklow where the sun meet the golden leaves:
This week end was under the sign of the sun. Leaving Dublin in the morning, I took a direct bus to Glendalough.
Only after few kilometers driving, the landscape changed totally, a green grass, a very green grass around the hills, some cheeps and few minutes later we were driving through beautiful road straight into a valley surrounded by mountains and golden trees.
It remind me very much the Vosges mountains, in France, but just with another atmosphere, let say more peaceful!
Glendalough is a beautiful monastery village from the century VI, built and named by the young monk St Kevin.

I understand very well his reason to establish the monastery in this place, this village is in the middle of the valley with two lakes. An idealist spot for meditation and spirituality!

The landscape is incredible, so beautiful and specially when sunny .The autumnal colors were spectacular!

I wont t say too much, … I can juts show you some pictures and you will understand what a great time I had while walking in this paradise...

My week end has been crowded by a marvelous surprise… Danny and Sabrina coincidently booked a week end in Ireland and in Enniskerry, a village in Wicklow ! This is the village I planned to visit this Sunday morning ! what a coincidence!
We are spending this day together, sharing great time between a walk in the wood, a country style lunch and a great coffee in Bray beach.
